Latin American Art Exhibition at Retroavangarda Gallery

The second edition of the Latin American Art Exhibition is taking place at the Retroavangarda Gallery in Warsaw, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala in Poland. This event offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich artistic heritage of Latin America, showcasing a diverse array of works ranging from modern artistic posters and collages to traditional painting and graphic techniques.

In the main hall, works by Guatemalan artist Alvaro Sanchez are on display. Sanchez is a renowned visual artist and recipient of numerous literary awards. The exhibition includes a new series of his pieces, which combine various techniques, from handcrafted collages to painted forms, offering profound reflections on human existence and transience. His work draws inspiration from European avant-garde, Dadaism, the creations of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, as well as literature and music.

Another section of the exhibition focuses on posters created by outstanding graphic designers from various Latin American countries. These posters are the works of highly acclaimed artists who have participated in numerous international exhibitions and received prestigious awards.

Further into the gallery, visitors will find original paintings and graphic works by artists from the region. A particular highlight is two original graphics by Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamín, one of the most prominent Latin American creators of the 20th century. His art, filled with expressive forms and dramatic intensity, delves into profound reflections on human suffering, injustice, and hope, serving as a universal voice for human rights. Known for his “Age of Wrath” series and as the founder of the “Chapel of Man” in Quito, Guayasamín left behind an incredibly moving artistic legacy.

In total, the exhibition at Retroavangarda Gallery in Warsaw showcases nearly 100 works by artists from over a dozen Latin American countries. This diverse and multi-dimensional perspective on the region’s art offers the Polish audience an opportunity to engage with the culture and aesthetics of Latin America.
