From 16th March to 16th April 2017 in the beautiful, modern building of Centrum Spotkania Kultur in Lublin is holding the big, international poster exhibition Post-Ecuador Poster Bienal, where Retroavangarda is one of the organizers. Centrum Spotkania Kultur has opened in 2016 and is the biggest cultural institution in this part of Europe. The exhibition showcases nearly 300 posters by artists from over 30 different countries. Due to large number of works, the posters were located in six different spaces, on four levels of the building. The presented posters were selected by an international jury from over 10 000 works sent for the main event. For the needs of the competition, it was organized into four main categories:
(A) Commercial Posters (Promotional, Advertising, Typography, Branding, etc.)
(B) Social Posters (Related to social and political issues)
(C) Students (Created by the student after January 1st 2014)
(D) To be Ecuadorian (Resident or Former Resident of Ecuador)
The exhibition holds posters of both famous artists and artists of the young generation – students, also from Polish art schools. The stylistic variety of the posters makes the exhibition a very interesting overview of current state of poster art. The artists’ profound interest in current worldwide issues such as immigration, terrorism, global warming or problems of European Union can be clearly observed. Artworks of many of the participants of the Lublin exhibition are also presented in our ‘Gallery of Friends’
The exhibition proved to fit the mission of CSK splendidly, which is connecting cultures, but it also befits ideally the main program points of Retroavangarda: to integrate artists from all over the world in Gallery of Friends and turning a virtual gallery into real life exhibition. Retroavangarda is already planning other exhibitions presenting works from Gallery of Friends, and it won’t be only poster art.

The exhibition in Lublin is the beginning of a series of post-contest exhibitions which will take place in 2017 in different parts of the world: Iran, Turkey, Italy and more. In May 2017 Post-Ecuador Poster Bienal will be also available to see in Warsaw. More information coming soon.
