Virginie Maltais is a canadian artist, she is living in Montreal city. Virginie Maltais creates dream like collages with intuitive strokes. The artist expresses herself by assembling papers in straight cuts and deliberate rips, combining that with mixed media. She used a variety of mixted media like oil pastels, dry pastels, ink, linocut, acrylic, watercolor and pen. Maltais’ visual language is expressed symbolically through sensuous body expressions, vortex, thought-provoking glances, and hands that seemingly talk through their evocative gestures. Each artwork represents a dance between the traits of strength and softness; where fluidity and Nature seamlessly come together. Through her work, the artist gives a part of her personnal life experience as humain being and a lot of emotional charge. She hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Montreal and a certificate in film studies from the Universty Laval. She did collage stop-motion and french collage tutorial on her youtube chanel. One of her stop-motion, Rain, as been selected to feature at Collagistas Festival in Brussel in 2019. She regular feature at collective art exhibitions and solo in Quebec and she be part of a few international collage exhibitions. To name a few, she as participated to Retroavangarda international collage exhibition in 2020 and the second edition of international collage days at Espace Monet-Rollinat art center (France) in 2021. She as curated a few collage collective exhibitions too. Passionate about the collage practice, she is the founder of Quebec Collage, a collage community, who want to promote collage made in Quebec, educate people about this medium and create a link between others internationnal collage community around the world. She also had writen some articles for Kolaj magazine.
