Edik Ghabuzyan


Born in 1952.Graduated from the State University of Armenia.

Graphic and type designer. He has created about 300 typefaces.

In some of his fonts he developed not only Armenian typefaces but also Latin, Cyrillic and Greek alphabet systems. 26 of his fonts were awarded different prizes at local and International Type Design competitions. In 2004 his Armenian Fonts Album was published. His typefaces were displayed at exhibitions in Lincoln, London, Hampshire, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Munich, Alexandria, Yerevan and Oshakan. His articles about Armenian type design art have been published in different magazines and he has made speeches on this theme in different international conferences and symposiums.  
Two of his fonts MARIAM and GRAPALAT have been adopted by the government of the Republic of Armenia as official fonts for State offices. 
In 2012 Edik Ghabuzyan was awarded a State Medal after MovsesKhorenatsi (which is the highest state award for artists in Armenia. In the same year he was awarded Gold Medal after Lev Yaschenko by Moscow International Designers Society for outstanding achievements in the field of design. 
Edik Ghabuzyan was the initiator and founder of the international type design competitions and conferences GRANSHAN and now is the co-head of the organizing committee and jury board of the competition. 

He is also a member of 6 international jury board.
Teaches type design in the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia.
