The solo exhibition at the Museo José Carlos Mariátegui features 26 original collages by Anna Kłos. All the works are part of her latest series, where the artist draws inspiration from traces of the past found in old forgotten letters, notes, and documents.

In “Echoes of the Past,” Polish artist Dr. Anna Kłos takes us on a personal journey through her fascinations with graphics, typography, and calligraphy. Her works merge the past with the present, transforming forgotten documents and family memories into abstract forms detached from their original context. Her collage technique in a small format reveals constant experimentation and refinement achieved over the years. The color palette in faded yellow tones and black symbolizes the passage of time. Black and white in Anna Kłos’s works refer to the dualism of existence: black as essence and limit, and white as the beginning and nothingness. In this symbolic play, we are invited to reflect on life and the passage of time.

Experimental typography in each of her collages plays a key role. Sometimes, the texts serve as condensed messages, while at other times, they are treated by the artist as an image, the building blocks of abstract compositions. Text fragments and individual words evoke personal memories, while the repetition of elements, such as expanding and multiplying circles, creates a visual rhythm connecting the works.

Anna Kłos’s work appears hermetic but provocative, challenging us to our own interpretations. The use of notes in family documents and personal papers adds another layer to discover in her work, this time of an emotional nature, and leaves a declaration of intent: to transform artistic creation into an attempt to stop time and leave a significant trace in the world.
