‘Abstraction and contemporary painting in Peru‘ is another exhibition organized by Retroavangarda according to the idea of promoting artists from all over the world. The opening of the exhibition took place on 10th January 2018 in Korekta Gallery in Warsaw. The exhibition was a part of celebration of the 95th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and Peru.
Many prominent guests were present at the opening: His Excellency Ambassador – Alberto Salas Barahona, Council Minister, Head of the Office – Pedro Pablo Delgado Hinostroza, Minister, Head of the Consular Section, responsible for cultural affairs – Ernesto Pinto Bazurco Barandiaran and the authorities of Warsaw School of Information Technology (WIT): Rector prof. Maciej Krawczak and vice-rectors: Barbara Kulma, Ph.D. and Jarosław Sikorski, Ph.D.
The exhibition presents a collection of 40 pieces made on small format paper, by seventeen artists from the capital of Peru, Lima. The artworks present at the exhibition were created in 2017, in Lima, during workshops organized by the COLORBOX art group. COLORBOX are three permanent members: Daniel Rodriguez (art director, founder of the group), Giuliana Pita (coordination and logistics) and Flori Bandini (artistic coordination). The main idea of the COLORBOX group assume coordinating and organizing the participation of other Peruvian and foreign artists in cultural events, exhibitions in art galleries and museums, and other artistic activities.
The selection of the pieces presented in Korekta Gallery was done by Daniel Rodriguez, coordinator of the exhibition. The artworks show a spectrum of styles and techniques that are currently on the rise in Peru. Painting is visibly dominant but there are also graphics, drawings, collage and experimental mixed techniques. For the most part, these are abstractions and non-representational paintings, but there are also several figurative drawings. Common characteristics for all pieces are individualism and independent approach to the subject – each of the creators gives his personal response.
I hope that this small exhibition will turn out to be the beginning of broader cooperation with Peruvian artists.
