The opening of the second exhibition in Retroavangarda Gallery in Warsaw, showcasing contemporary art, took place on 7th June 2018. The exhibition was located in three different spaces of the luxurious office building’s lobby at Aleje Jerozolimskie 146D and it showcases paintings, graphics and poster art.
The artist representing the painting section is Jacek Gowik – a graduate of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. A set of a dozen of his abstract oil paintings dates from the recent period of the artist’s career and has never been presented before. The large format, collector-attracting pieces fit modern spaces perfectly. Jacek Gowik has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions and in March this year he received an honorable mention in the 2nd Review of Contemporary Art Nowa Awangarda, in Galeria Szyb Wilson in Katowice.
The second part of the lobby presents graphics by Ryszard Gieryszewski. Selected artworks cover the last 30 years of the artist’s career. Ryszard Gieryszewski is one of the main polish contemporary creators specializing in graphic art. He was born in 1936 in Warsaw. In 1959-1964 he studied in the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of professors Aleksander Koziej and Andrzej Rudziński. . He was a member of XYLON – International Association of Woodcutters, based in Switzerland. His art has been presented at over 30 solo exhibitions and a few hundred group exhibitions both in Poland and abroad. He has received many prestigious awards and distinctions for his paintings and graphics and his pieces are in museum collections both in Poland and other countries.
The specific thing about Retroavangarda is connecting various fields of contemporary art. Hence, poster art is a permanent element of the exhibitions. For the second exhibition in Retroavangarda Poster Gallery , we present pieces by the following 17 artists from 10 countries:
