Juan Borja

I am a Japanese descendent living in Perú. Since childhood I´ve been fascinated by the shapes of living organisms and ancient architecture. I studied biology – ecology.  Since 2010, I have worked exclusively in the field of photography on my own, focusing more and more in art projects. I am passionate about photography, not only as an art, but also as a document – in which the historical record of a place or a living organism remains.

I use mainly films for my works, and nowadays I am experimenting with alternative printing methods. My inspiration comes from different sources, such as Japanese cinema and printmaking art, Mexican photographers: Juan Rulfo, Tina Modotti, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Mexican filmmaker Gabriel Figueroa, and also the Pictorialism movement, specially Leonard Missone.  I am currently engaged in a series about the crucifixion.
